The Community Support Program (CSP) is a key pathway for humanitarian resettlement to Australia, offering a community-based approach to sponsoring refugees, the Community Support Program (CSP) is one of the more community-focused pathways available. This program allows individuals, families, and community organisations to directly sponsor refugees from overseas. The aim is to support those in need while fostering stronger, faster integration through community engagement and support.
The CSP is a part of Australia’s broader Humanitarian Program and operates under the Subclass 202 (Global Special Humanitarian Visa). To be eligible, applicants must be outside their home country and Australia, face persecution or significant discrimination, and be between 18–50 years old with good health and strong settlement potential. Preference is given to those with family or community links in Australia and who can demonstrate self-reliance, as this program is designed to limit dependence on government support.
Sponsorship through the CSP must be arranged via Approved Proposing Organisations (APOs) — authorised community groups, charities, or businesses that handle applications and provide essential settlement services such as housing, employment assistance, and general support after arrival. It’s a hands-on, community-led model that offers a more personalised and often quicker pathway compared to traditional resettlement options.
Importantly, the CSP also allows Australian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor family members, relatives, or friends from third countries where they have taken refuge. Over the past decade, many migrants have successfully resettled in Australia through this program with the help of APOs and community support.
At present, CSP is not accepting new applications, but it is expected to reopen in the near future. If you or someone you know is interested in applying, please contact our office to be added to our waiting list. Once the program resumes, we will notify all interested individuals directly from our list. This is a great opportunity for those looking to bring loved ones to Australia through a humanitarian pathway rooted in community and compassion.
Subclass 202 (Global Special Humanitarian Visa) applications, unlike CSP visa applications, are able to be lodged all year round.
